The Carolina Mudcats survived a tying three-run rally in the ninth, scratching out a run on a wild pitch in the 10th to take a 4-3 win over the homestanding Mississippi Braves.

Things didn’t finish quite as well for the Durham Bulls, who dropped a 3-1 road decision to the Charlotte Knights in 11 innings.

The Bulls will visit Charlotte again Sunday before playing the last three games of the two-city series in Durham beginning Monday night.

The Mudcats will take on Mississippi twice more, then move on to Birmingham for a three-game set before returning home Friday night for the opener of the season’s final series against the Tennessee Smokies.

Mudcats 4, Mississippi 3 (10 inn.)
Chris McMurray homered with two singles for two RBI in the Mudcats’ victory.

Donnie Joseph (1-0) was the winning pitcher while Lee Tabor collected his first save. Benino Pruneda (0-4) took the loss.

Tom Cochran had a quality start for Carolina, going six shutout innings and allowing just two hits with three strikeouts against two walks.

Denis Phipps had a ninth-inning solo homer for the Mudcats.

Shawn McGill had two doubles with two RBI for Mississippi.

Charlotte 3, Bulls 1 (11 inn.)
Dayan Viciedo’s two-run homer with one out in the 11th got the Knights the walk-off win.

Miguel Socolovich (3-1) was the winning pitcher, while Darin Downs (6-2) took the loss.

Angel Chavez and Justin Ruggiano had two hits each for the Bulls.

Sunday’s games
Bulls at Charlotte, 2:15 p.m.
