The result gave Montgomery three wins in their five-game series with only Sunday’s matchup remaining.

Montgomery had a 4-0 lead through an inning and a half, with the biggest blow a three-run homer from Matt Fields off Daryl Thompson (0-1) with one out in the first.

Fields was one of four Biscuits to finish with two hits each. Former Durham Bulls catcher Craig Albernaz added a double and a single while Chris DeLaCruz chipped in a pair of hits with an RBI.

Yonder Alonso had a two-run homer in the fifth inning for the Mudcats, who got three hits including a pair of doubles from Chris Denove.

Paul Phillips (1-0) was the winning pitcher while Matt Gorgen collected his second save.
