Thursday was a very good night for both the women's college basketball teams from Durham.

Joy Cheek (pictured) and Jasmine Thomas had 15 points each to lead the way as No. 9 Duke walloped host Clemson 67-41, while N.C. Central won for the fourth time in its past six games with a 69-60 result over visiting Maryland-Eastern Shore.

The 41 points were the fewest that Clemson (9-8), which has lost 13 straight in the series, has scored against the Blue Devils.

Bridgette Mitchell added 12 points and 10 rebounds for Duke (13-2) for her first double-double in three years.

Shaniqua Pauldo had 12 points and Sthefany Thomas 10 for Clemson.

Duke's next game is at home on Sunday at 1 against Wake Forest.

Miller explodes for Eagles

At NCCU, freshman Joanna Miller poured in a season-high 32 points as the Eagles (4-11) beat future MEAC for UMES for the first time in three tries.

Shanise Blanks added 19 points for NCCU. Miller had five 3-pointers and Blanks three in the win. Latoya Bennett had 16 rebounds for the Eagles.

April McBride led the Hawks (2-7) with 17 points and 16 rebounds, while Chena Parker added 13 points and Casey Morton 10.

NCCU's next game is at home on Tuesday against former CIAA rival Shaw.
