Posted by Mike Potter on Wed, Dec 16, 2009 at 3:49 PM

Junior college tight end Cooper Helfet has signed a National Letter of Intent to play football for Duke.

The 6-4, 235-pounder from Santa Rosa (Calif.) J.C. is scheduled to enroll next month and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Helfet attended Johns Hopkins University on a lacrosse scholarship in the fall of 2007, then played the 2008 and 2009 seasons at Santa Rosa.

As a freshman, he helped Santa Rosa to an 8-3 record with 28 catches for 382 yards. Last season, he had 40 catches for 657 yards and seven touchdowns as the Bear Cubs went 5-5.
