Where are they now? The Quentin Thomas edition
If UNC coach Roy Williams can't land his former basketball players a job in the NBA or as a coach ... then there is always the music industry.
Quentin Thomas, the former Carolina point guard known primarily for his role as a career backup and his crowd-pleasing name (QUUUEEEE!), has started a rapping career as Eric Tullis wrote for the Indy Weekly last October.
Thomas never starred for the Tar Heels, but during his senior year he did manage to fill in nicely for Ty Lawson after the star guard went down with an ankle injury that nearly cost Carolina the league crown and a berth to the Final Four.
Tullis wrote that Thomas -- who goes by GQ in his songs -- is working with producer 9th Wonder and that it might be a while until the music could be heard.
After what I can only imagine has been a grueling wait, you can listen to some of his work here at his MySpace page. "Get Jamla" is his most popular song and really shows off Thomas' flow.
"We haven't finished an album yet," Thomas wrote in an e-mail about his current work with 9th Wonder. "We have just been working on many projects."
Thomas also promised more music and information would be released shortly.
Update: Rashad McCants joins Thomas as former UNC players who are rapping ... well, McCants is still in the NBA with Sacramento, too.
Check out his page here. McCants, whose rapper name is Soze Permenete', sounds much more radio ready than GQ's straight beats. My favorite line: "played in the Dean Dome now I've got that evergreen."
