Not even the return of their ace pitcher from Triple-A could get the Carolina Mudcats out of the doldrums Friday night.

Brett Lawrie homered on Matt Klinker’s very first pitch, and the Huntsville Stars won 2-1 in front of 5,991 fans, the Mudcats’ largest home crowd of the season.

The result in the second game of the series was Carolina’s seventh straight loss.

Steffan Wilson’s solo homer in the fourth gave the Stars some insurance and dropped the loss on Klinker despite his quality outing.

Michael Bowman (6-4) was the winning pitcher.

Carolina got its run in the seventh, as Brandon Yarborough led off the inning with a single and scored on Denis Phipps’ triple. Eric Eymann also tripled for the Mudcats.
