Robbie Fulks returns to his former North Carolina home

Posted by on Thu, Feb 20, 2014 at 10:45 AM

Despite having left North Carolina many years ago for Chicago, the work of singer/songwriter Robbie Fulks always seems to reflect his time in central part of our state. An alumni of Durham's Carolina Friends School, Fulks returned to Raleigh last week, playing at the Southland Ballroom.

He brought his usual counterpart, Robbie Gjersoe, along, as well as renowned bassist Missy Raines and ace fiddler Shad Cobb. Fulks is touring on his excellent bluegrass-infused album Gone Away Backward, one of his strongest releases to date. Fulks' songs at times were Roger Miller-esque in their humor and other times as high and lonesome as those of the best bluegrass picker.

Check some clips from the evening's performance.

"Long I Ride"

"Goodbye, Virginia"

"That's Where I'm From"
