Videos: Nashville Pussy gets sleazy in Raleigh

The Atlanta band keeps it brief at The Pour House

Nashville Pussy took its name from a seemingly random comment made by Ted Nugent on the 1978 live album Double Live Gonzo! Over the last 18 years, the group has become an institution in what many would call "Southern Trash Rock." Indeed, the Atlanta band plays the part of the dejected bastard son to AC/DC, as their catalog features tunes the boys from Australia would never touch. It might cost them their T-shirts-sold-in-Target market, after all.

Alas, Nashville Pussy carries on the heavy riffing that AC/DC and many others influenced while pushing their own strange envelope. Personally, the group fueled many high-speed and late-night road trips with their riff-drenched lyric, "I'd drive all night just to hear that guitar play." I did just that to hear songs like "Lazy White Boy,"  "Hate and Whiskey," "Shoot First and Run Like Hell" and "High as Hell."

Despite being from Atlanta, the crew doesn't make it up this way too often. Saturday at the Pour House, they ran through a blink-and-you'll-miss-it set that lasted about an hour. With new bassist Bonnie Buitrago, the riffs were heavy and aplenty. Getting caught up in the "shock" of the group's name would be to lose sight of what you'd be missing—that is, closing your eyes and letting the rock ’n’ roll wash over you.
