Simple Music Video Series Simple Music Video Series: Gross Ghost's "Devious" and "Leslie"

Today's session brings us Gross Ghost, who came to Capital Club 16 to play a few songs on a bright Sunday afternoon in late June. At the time, the band was gearing up for their opening gig for Superchunk at the Cat's Cradle. No surprise, they sounded great. Mike Dillon and company are looking to spend the rest of the year writing and recording their follow-up to this year's excellent release, Brer Rabbit. They also plan to tour: "We've had a really great year in North Carolina, but it's time to take it to the streets elsewhere," Dillon says.
As it stands, there are two more chances to see Gross Ghost locally this year. Tomorrow's show at Kings Barcade features free beer and pizza (while supplies last) along with WOOL (aka Troy Hancock!), Midnight Plus One and Wesley Wolfe. Tickets are $5; doors are at 9 p.m. The other is at Hopscotch on Thursday, Sept. 6. They'll be playing at The Berkeley Cafe along with Lilac Shadows, Boy Friend and Ducktails. Their set begins at 10 p.m.
Until then, enjoy two acoustic songs, "Devious" and "Leslie." Gross Ghost also delivered a very interesting selection for their local cover song. We'll be posting that in the weeks to come.
The purpose of the Independent Weekly's Simple Music Video Series is to capture local and touring musicians who we feel are producing something special. The hope is to capture something very simple in order to mirror the experience of viewing a performance as if you were in a small crowd watching a quiet set. We hope for content of the music to be the primary focus of the series, not multiple camera angles meant to keep the viewer guessing and entertained.
Most bands featured in the series will be a sample of the deep pool of talent in the Triangle, while others will represent some of our touring favorites.
