Today: Know Your Poll party brings voting awareness to The Pinhook

But this afternoon, an event at The Pinhook
spearheaded by Schooner’s Reid Johnson and sponsored by WXDU 88.7 FM seeks to ramp up awareness about early voting opportunities in Durham. Despite frequent public ambivalence, midterm elections do matter, especially if you’re dissatisfied with the political state of affairs in North Carolina. In addition to an afternoon full of some of the Triangle’s best bands and limited free pizza from Lilly’s, Durham residents can figure out their polling place and seize the opportunity to go vote before the official election day rolls around next Tuesday.
Even if your polling place is outside of Durham, the musical lineup is worth the trip alone. There’s the hip-hop of Shirlette Ammons, Hammer No More the Fingers’ bounce and Some Army’s swirls, plus Daniel Bachman’s acoustic guitar tunes. Things get a little heavier with raucous rock outfits like SOON, Midnight Plus One and Pipe. And what would a voting advocacy show be without the NC Music Love Army stopping by?
The day’s performances will be simulcast online at wxdu.org
and over the air at 88.7 FM.
North Carolina’s conservative-controlled government has been hard at work attempting to make it as difficult as possible for a critical mass of North Carolinians to vote. There are the controversial voter ID laws as well as still-contested restrictions on early voting times and locations.
