If you're free for the evening next Monday, Nov. 11, the members of local indie folk-rock band The Pinkerton Raid invite you to join them at the Reality Center, at 916 Lamond Ave. in Durham. They want you to be part of a chorus of voices belting out the classic gospel children's tune "The Little Light of Mine" for a music video.
The idea, band leader Jesse James DeConto writes in a ReverbNation dispatch
to fans, is "to capture the spirit of a social-justice rally." The song inspired the title of of DeConto's spiritual memoir This Littler Light: Some Thoughts on NOT Changing the World
, due next month from Cascade Books.
The public is invited to arrive at 7 p.m. for refreshments and a few practice run-throughs, with recording and filming set to run from 8 to 9 p.m. DeConto assures folks that "you don't really need to sing very well. We'll start the song by ourselves and slowly add in voices, and by the end, it should sound like a bunch of people just singing together, not a professional choir."
