your turn Prevention Not Detention, Wednesday, May 17: A for-profit youth detention center has been proposed for our state, and activists across North Carolina have been organizing against it since the announcement. A meeting to discuss the issue of youth detention and how to voice opposition to the plan will be held at the Durham County Public Library's Main Branch, 300 N. Roxboro Road, in Durham. Opponents to the center believe that youth detention is racially biased and that the center is unnecessary. Interested citizens are invited to attend and learn more at the meeting that will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17. Call 419-8311 for more information.
