your turn LRC Meeting on Predatory Lending, Wednesday, Jan. 26: Last year, the N.C. General Assembly passed the Predatory Lending Law, designed to crack down on lenders who take advantage of citizens who are desperate for loans. The General Assembly's Credit Insurance and Mortgage Credit Legislative Research Commission (LRC) will meet to discuss part of the new law, a prohibition against financing upfront, single premium insurance. Pressure to repeal this prohibition is already mounting. The Coalition for Responsible Lending believes that this is the most important provision in the law, protecting targeted groups like minorities, the poor and the elderly from predatory lenders. The public is invited to the LRC meeting Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Legislative Building in downtown Raleigh, room 1228, to hear about of credit insurance and the new law, and show their support for the prohibition as it stands. Call the Coalition for Responsible Lending, 956-4485, for details.
