From Moral Mondays to a free-wheeling Jesus, capturing the moments, small and large, of 2013

2013 was the Year of Unrest, and INDY photographers captured the tension of the moment. Moral Monday protesters demonstrated against the policies of Gov. Pat McCrory and Republican lawmakers; students and teachers rallied against cuts to education; and this month, activists demanded answers from Durham police about the death of 17-year-old Jesus Huerta, who allegedly committed suicide while in the back of a police car.

That said, there were uplifting moments as well: parades and celebrations, baseball games and doughnut-eating road racers.

Whatever 2014 holds, we'll be there, day by day, to document it, to raise questions and make sense of what unfolds. —Lisa Sorg
