Work-in-progress & Discussion

When: Wed., May 29, 7:30 p.m. 2013
Price: Free
p>Haymaker, Process Series and Polytheatrics fans, take note: The TEAM (Theatre of the Emerging American Moment) is an award-winning 9-year-old company from New York that specializes in devised theater. Their energetic previous work, including a musical on the global economic crisis called Mission Drift, got them dubbed "the artistic conscience of a younger generation" and "Gertrude Stein meets MTV."

This past week, they've been guests at PlayMakers Rep for the third in a series of season-end incubation sessions the company has hosted for world-class theater companies in recent years. In these weeklong residencies, artists meet with experts in the sciences and humanities, generating new material before conducting a single, free staged reading. During their residency, TEAM members have begun a year of exploring what they term "the difference between drive and discipline." They've met with experts on early childhood education, cognitive therapy and modern politics—and had their first lessons in electric guitar and banjo. —Byron Woods
