This past July 12 marked the 100-year anniversary of the birth of Woodrow Wilson Guthrie, and there have been several events to memorialize the occasion, including a major historical box set issued by Smithsonian Folkways, panels and showcases at major music conferences, and a new documentary film about Guthrie's years in New York City. The ArtsCenter is adding to the spirit of the occasion with this centennial celebratory event, which will include a lecture by UNC American Studies professor Robert Cantwell about Guthrie's career and its context. Various local luminaries will play and read Guthrie's music and writings, including Jon Shain, Joe Newberry, Katherine Whalen, Kim Arrington, Zelda Lockhart, Tim Stambaugh, Charles Pettee, Danny Gotham, Jim Watson, Blood Jar Creepers, Sacrificial Poets, Cyril Lance, Nathan Golub, N.C. Sen. Ellie Kinnaird and ArtsCenter director Art Menius. —Peter Blackstock
