When my mom was raising my sister and me, she made it a priority that we grow up to be creative thinkers. Motivational storyteller Willa Brigham also holds that trait in high regard. Brigham uses storytelling to urge kids and adults to use their imaginations. Brigham is an old hand at entertaining the younger age group: She hosted the children's show Smart Start Kids, which won a regional Emmy Award. The family-friendly event begins at 11 a.m. and runs an hour. It's presented by Arts in the Garden and will be held in the Doris Duke Center. Tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for children. —Sarah Ewald
