It's been nearly 10 years since Wicked opened on Broadway to mixed reviews. Why, then, is it one of the most popular musicals of all time? Wicked is not only an imagined prequel to L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, it's also a comment on contemporary culture. Having Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel debut the show's dueling leads surely didn't hurt ticket sales, either. Wicked first appeared at DPAC in August 2010; it's back for another four-week run, starting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and continuing through May 27. —Christina Cass
