Who's who in the terrorism trial

Who's who in the terrorism trial

Next week, three Muslim men from the Triangle will be tried on federal charges of conspiracy and "providing material support" to terrorist organizations. Omar Hassan, 24, Ziyad Yaghi, 23, and Hysen Sherifi, 27, have plead not guilty to conspiring with Daniel Boyd to commit acts of terrorism overseas. The trial will be held in New Bern. If convicted, they could be sentenced to life in prison.

In February, Boyd, 40, plead guilty to conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists and conspiracy to "murder, kidnap, injure or maim" people overseas. He is expected to testify against the remaining defendants as part of the agreement.

This week, Dylan Boyd, 24, who was to be tried with the three defendants, is expected to change his plea to guilty.

A fifth defendant, Anes Subasic, will be tried separately. A sixth, Jude Kenan Mohammad, 22, is an American believed to be avoiding trial in Pakistan, where his family lives. Mohammad was placed on the FBI's Most Wanted list last week after intelligence officials said they received credible information that he was involved in plans to bomb U.S. cities on the 10th anniversary of 9/11.
