Who to call if you have trouble on Nov. 4

Voter suppression is one of the main concerns about fairness—or the lack thereof—in the 2008 elections.

If you have questions about your voting rights or the voting process on Election Day, Nov. 4, you can call the UNC School of Law hotline, 1-866-687-8683, between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., while polls are open.

Law school students, faculty and volunteer lawyers will staff the toll-free, nonpartisan hotline hosted by the UNC Center for Civil Rights.

The U.S. Attorney's office in Raleigh will have an assistant U.S. Attorney on duty to investigate complaints of election fraud and voting rights abuses. Bobby Higdon Jr. can be reached at 856-4530 during polling hours.

Higdon will work with the federal Justice Department and FBI, which will station special agents in each of its field offices and can be reached at 704-377-9200.
