Whitesnake has released a pair of live albums so far in 2013. Sure, it's an odd move for a band that's 35 years into a hard-rock career largely notable for a pair of feather-soft hits. But the band you'll find on Made in Japan and Made in Britain and the one you'll find onstage in Raleigh are far more formidable than those tunes suggest. Riffs churn with distortion. Drums push hard, occasionally flirting with d-beat quickness. And David Coverdale's howl is still strong and charismatic. Whitesnake has never been revolutionary, and the band's tricks are as familiar as ever, but the songs are efficient and engaging.
