What does homeland security mean to you?

The Bush administration and Attorney General John Ashcroft have defined homeland security to mean neighbors spying on neighbors and fences around reservoirs and nuclear power plants. But we think real homeland security means a lot more than that--good jobs, clean air and water, health care for everyone, and government in the public rather than the corporate interest. What does homeland security mean to you? Let us know in 100 words or less by Sept. 5, and we'll consider publishing it in our Sept. 11 edition. Send your contributions to Homeland Security, The Independent Weekly, P.O. Box 2690, Durham, N.C., 27715, or e-mail them to editors@indyweek.com.
