Drums & Tuba

The Pour House--Drums & Tuba is a way weird thing: First, there's the name. Drums & Tuba is actually a trio, employing Brian Wolff's tuba and Neal McKeeby's guitar alongside Tony Nozero's vocal and drum work. So, it's Drums & Tuba & Guitar & Vocals. Then there's the label thing, both in a business sense and a music sense: Drums & Tuba has released three records on Righteous Babe Records, Ani DiFranco's imprint. Little, if any, musical kinship exists there. As for the musical label, D&T makes hard-to-define anthems to exploratory composition that focus more on planning to sound improvised than actually improvising. So, it sounds like jazz and rock, but it's structured like jazz--and rock. But I'm pretty sure they're not down with the label "jock." The $6 show starts with Mayhap at 10 p.m. --Grayson Currin

The Colored Museum

thompson theatre--The second half of this satire's run begins tonight at 8 p.m. Written by George C. Wolfe, the play focuses on 11 sequences where African American theater's key figureheads are satirized so as to demonstrate what it means to be black in America today. Tickets are $14, and the play runs at N.C. State through Sunday.
