Pre-Turkey Day Jam at Cat's Cradle

CAT'S CRADLE—Right up there with apple-sausage stuffing and a post-meal nap during the Lions game (though maybe not this season), the Pre-Turkey Day Jam is a wonderful Thanksgiving tradition. For the seventh consecutive year, local hero Jon Shain will gather friends to make music and raise money for Raleigh's Helping Hands Mission. A songwriters-in-the-round set featuring Shain, Mark and Michael Holland (the former in Jule Brown persona) and our crown prince of song swaps, Kenny Roby, gets things started. Old-time string band Big Medicine and the vintage-rocking Edsel 500 round out the bill just fine. Tickets are $10, and the music starts at 8:15 p.m. —Rick Cornell
