Chapel Hill
NIGHTLIGHT—Want a jerk toward that Pacific NW indie-punk ethic, with punchy singing and some squirrel-y guitar kick? Put money on The Old Haunts, whose drummer, Tobi Vail, did time in Bikini Kill and leading the Haunts' label Kill Rock Stars. Also on the $7 bill: Joshua David Abbott and Violet Vector and the Lovely Lovelies. Get in at 10 p.m. —Chris Toenes

BROAD STREET CAFÉ—They may not all be as well known as James Taylor or Ben Folds, but this state is packed with songwriters. The North Carolina Song Writers Co-Op, a local nonprofit, holds an open mic night tonight starting at 8 p.m. For more info, visit or call 416-9707. —Megan Stein

N.C. MUSEUM OF NATURAL SCIENCE—Come see Birdman Dave and his friends Sky, Belle and Christopher Columbus tonight at 6:30 p.m. and experience a different side of North Carolina's birds of prey. Come a little earlier at 5:15 p.m. and enjoy a special after-hours viewing of Hunters in the Sky. Tickets are $8. For more info, call 733-7450 or visit—Iesha Brown
