  • Blithe Spirit

Progress Energy Center—We honor the dead by saying "they are gone, but not forgotten." In Blithe Spirit, they won't let you forget! A classic comedy of calamity and catfights, Blithe Spirit is the story of Charles Condomine, a novelist, socialite and former widower who is now happily remarried. Charles soon finds himself trapped in a paranormal predicament with his deceased wife Elvira . Join Hot Summer Nights at the Kennedy as they kick off their 2007 season in the Kennedy Theatre. Chapel Hill
Local 506—The Nothing Noise, a five-piece of UNC students who put together pop songs that are both highly textured and minimalist, show a lot of promise. Syrupy strong vocals recalling The Magnetic Fields sit a little uncomfortably with often wispy backgrounds, but the vitality of the band's set-up—mostly, a drummer who beats frenetically on two toms—keeps their sets interesting and allows for plenty of promise. They share a bill with Thee More Shallows and The Busy World. Tickets $8 for the 10 p.m. start. —Margaret Hair
