DURHAM
REDNECK RIVIERA
Duke Campus—Dubbed the "Redneck Riviera" after WWII, Carolina Beach has since undergone expensive renovations, considered by some to be pecks at the popular N.C. coastal town's heart and soul. Photographer and UNC-CH professor Patrick Davison's exhibit captures the people of Carolina Beach who fuel its treasured and threatened spirit. He will be at the Bryan Center tonight at 6 p.m. for the opening, accompanied by a Duke Strings School performance. For more info, call 684-2911. —Megan Stein

CHAPEL HILL
THE BLUEST EYE
Playmakers Repertory—Lydia R. Diamond's adaptation of The Bluest Eye, Toni Morrison's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, opens tonight. Set in the 1940s in Lorain, Ohio, an area saturated with black migrants looking for work in the midst of the Great Depression, it is the story of Pecola, a black girl struggling with her identity as the country around her struggles with its own. She and those around her encounter the racism and hardship of the era in this beloved tale. Curtain at 8 p.m. For more info, visit www.playmakersrep.org or call 962-PLAY. —Megan Stein
