  • The Battle of Algiers

DURHAM
THE BATTLE OF ALGIERS
DUKE CAMPUS—No classic film has been brought forth to testify to the present the way Gillo Pontecorvo's imperishable drama of anti-colonialist warfare in Algeria has. The free screening takes place in Griffith Auditorium at 7 p.m., which will be followed by refreshments and a panel with Peter Euben and Melanie Mitchell of the Kenan Institute for Ethics on torture, counterinsurgency and other sugarplums of Dick Cheney's dreams. Visit fvd.aas.duke.edu/screensociety/schedule.php for more info. If you miss this screening, don't fret: the Full Frame doc fest will present a remastered print on Friday, April 13 at the Carolina Theatre at 6 p.m., in a screening introduced by Mira Nair (The Namesake). —David Fellerath
