Carrboro
Prometheus' Garden
Orange County Social Club—Part creation myth and survivor saga, Prometheus' Garden is the only film over which clay animator Bruce Bickford—a former Frank Zappa collaborator and the subject of the mesmerizing 2005 documentary Monster Road—maintained creative control. Completed in 1988, the 28-minute tale was excerpted in Monster Road and is now being released in full by Brett Ingram's Bright Eye Pictures. Laird Dixon, the Chapel Hill musician who scored Monster Road with his band Shark Quest, contributes the whimsical score—all synthesized strings and playful classical nods—for an alternate take on Garden. Ingram and Dixon present a screening of both versions tonight at 9:30 and 11 p.m. Admission is free. Look for an interview with Ingram and Dixon in the August 20th Independent.Grayson Currin

Raleigh
Beres Hammond
Lincoln Theatre—Throughout his 30-year career, Beres Hammond has inhabited nearly all corners of reggae. His 1976 debut, Soul Reggae, aptly captures the groove he would try to follow, from ballads that became Jamaican smashes early on to a successful leap to dancehall, with the hit "Tempted to Touch," his best-known song stateside. But he found his true realm as a smooth, smoky master of lovers rock, the relaxed, flirty jam of reggae. It's a sound he credits to listening to old American soul records growing up, like Sam Cooke, and the rock-steady feel. Here's a master of his own domain at work. With Harmony House Singers and Heather and Lenya. Pay $27-$32 at 9 p.m. —Chris Toenes
