Raleigh
Dave Matthews Band
Walnut Creek Amphitheater—Irony had its day on Jan. 1 of this year when TBD Records, a subsidiary of Dave Matthews' ATO Records imprint, released In Rainbows by Radiohead, a band whose fans have rarely cut the other guys slack (and vice versa). Matthews, vilified by tastemakers but hugely successful for nearly 15 years now, glides along with his quintet, which would have benefited from a choice between empty showmanship (electric violins and leather pants) and interesting ideas (rhythms that never settle; Keith Jarrett-fueled piano solos) long ago. Alas, as a consequence of such crippling indecision, it'll sound tonight mostly as it did five years ago. It'll bring Michael Franti's Spearhead along at 7 p.m. —Grayson Currin
