Duke Gardens—With its forthcoming Gather, Form and Fly, Megafaun expands on its stunning 2008 debut, Bury the Square, by adding composure and focus to its mix of Appalachian folk, pop and experimental sound. With number two, the Raleigh trio seems poised for a breakthrough, thanks to perfect three-part harmonies, swelling dynamics and repurposed rustic familiarity. By digging through the dusty archives of American popular song, Megafaun found the portal to its future—a sprawling and emotionally invested expanse that does for the listener exactly what its title suggests, setting us wild, free and into the wind. Missing this band on a stage is generally a big mistake, too. Tonight's outdoor performance starts at 7 p.m. and costs $10 for the general public, $5 for Duke employees, and nothing for Duke students and children 12 and younger. —Bryan Reed
