Hanson
Carolina Theatre—On the day I graduated from middle school, a cavalcade of minivans took a few dozen friends to a shopping mall for a food-court lunch and an afternoon of air-conditioning. I distinctly remember buying two CD singles from the long-since-done Camelot Music on that day of coronation: Meredith Brooks' "Bitch" and Hanson's "MMMBop." For that single, their high young-adult pitches and their haircuts, the Hanson brothers—Isaac, Taylor and Zac—have been the punch lines of many cheap shots for the past decade. Still, they've fared a lot better than Brooks and the rest of my (and your?) eighth-grade music collection: The Oklahoma brothers have released four albums since hitting quadruple-plat status in 1997, and they've never charted below No. 56. Bono called them "genius," they've jammed with Bob Weir's Ratdog, and they work with charities at each show. Their pop is still breezy, too. Stephen Kellogg & the Sixers and Kate Voegele open at 7:30 p.m. for $34. —Grayson Currin
