Raleigh
Dinner with a Legend
Prime Only Downtown—Sam Cooke, "The Man Who Invented Soul," was a superstar whose hits included "You Send Me" and "A Change Is Gonna Come." Broadway performer Darrian Ford plays Cooke for a month-long run that began last week—no easy task to be sure. Produced by N.C. Theatre at Prime Only Downtown, the show is accompanied by a three-course meal, located in the Rat Pack Lounge. Dinner for a couple is $140 and begins at 8 p.m., while the 10 p.m. cocktail show is $20 per person. This show continues through April 26. For more info, call 835-2649 or visit www.ratpacklounge.org. —Megan Stein

Carrboro
The Weakerthans
Cat's Cradle—Winnipeg's The Weakerthans didn't necessarily make matters better for its fourth album, last year's Reunion Tour, by picking that name: Indeed, Reunion Tour feels a little microwaved, a we-did-it-because-we-had-to disc that makes 2004's Reconstruction Site that much better. That said, the new tunes do stand up better live, and John K. Samson—a stunning lyricist who's never quite perfected his arrangements—is one of the most likeable frontmen in indie rock. A.A. Bondy—who called himself Scott Bondy in Alabama indie rock band Verbena before marrying into the Felice family (see Monday above)—opens. His American Heart, a folky rumination with embattled religious and political notions, somehow disarms as it demands. The 8:15 p.m. show costs $13-$15. —Grayson Currin
