I Have Before Me a Remarkable Document Given to Me by a Young lady from Rwanda

Kenan Theatre, UNC Campus—Sonja Linden's play is about Juliette, a Rwandan refugee who has written a book about the travesties that occurred in her country. In her attempt to get it published, she enlists the help of Simon, a poet and refugee aide, and their relationship quickly flourishes into a mutual exploration of each other's cultures. Linden wrote this play—whose lengthy title is a "challenge to our short attenion span where Rwanda is concerned," she says—as a response to her interactions with Rwandan refugees when she was a writer-in-residence at the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture. Now PlayMakers Repertory Company brings this work to Chapel Hill for a five-day run. Tickets are $24–$32. Visit www.playmakersrep.org. —Belem Destefani

Chapel Hill
Tally Hall, Jukebox the Ghost

Local 506—Michigan quintet Tally Hall's quirky, energetic power pop channels the whimsy of Barenaked Ladies and the catchy, keyboard-driven unpredictability of Electric Light Orchestra, flavored with a dash of Ben Folds' geeky charm. It's been four years since they released their debut, Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum, which Atlantic reissued after signing them in 2008. The followup, Good & Evil, is due later this year. Jukebox the Ghost is even more keyboard-centric. The trio features two songwriters and possesses an oddball, nasally voiced indie-prog-pop charm. With Skybox at 9 p.m. for $10. See www.local506.com. —Chris Parker
