Colony Theater—Bland Minne-SO-ta everyman Jerry Lundegaard (William H. Macy) becomes a lot less vanilla when he colludes with two criminals to kidnap his wife for ransom money. But things quickly unravel, beginning with a tussle between Jerry's wife, Jean, and her hapless kidnappers (Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare). Joel and Ethan Coen's off-kilter comic tale led to awards for Joel for direction and also an Oscar for the brothers for original screenplay. Coen regular Frances McDormand rounds out the cast as pregnant police chief Marge Gunderson, in what some feel is still the Coens' greatest film. The show begins at 8 p.m. and tickets are $5. Robert Crais

Quail Ridge Books & Music—Robert Crais cut his teeth as a writer on such legendary crime dramas as Hill Street Blues, Cagney & Lacey, Quincy, Miami Vice and L.A. Law before moving into best-seller territory with his tales of PI Elvis Cole. His latest book, The First Rule, teams up Cole with tough-as-nails Joe Pike as they target a professional robbery crew specializing in home invasions. Crais, whose work was adapted into the 2006 Bruce Willis film Hostage, visits Quail Ridge at 7:30 p.m. This is a signing-line ticketed event; tickets are free with a purchase of any Crais book.
