ORGANIZE!
NC Votes is a grassroots activist group dedicated to mobilizing new voters to defeat Bush, primarily targeting people who did not vote in 2000 but would likely vote for a Democrat in 2004. Its volunteers knock on doors, talk to people about the real issues in the election--unemployment, healthcare, etc. --and encourage them to vote and register them if necessary.

"It makes me feel good to be part of a group that's doing something good, instead of just complaining," says Michele McIntosh, one of the organizers. "And a lot of other people feel the same thing."

The group's next meeting is Feb. 15, and its next canvass is Feb. 21. If you'd like to help organize, raise money or, especially, canvass, call McIntosh at 855-9393.
