Dancing in the dark: VYIE

When: Mon., Feb. 11, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $6

Barely a week after the hometown release of VYIE's debut album, the young Atlanta trio brings its enchanting, electronica-infused indie pop to Raleigh. Nightingale's dark but dreamy ambiance pairs layers of haunting female vocals with chilly soundscapes, colored by distant guitar squiggles and throbbing bass lines. The band is named for "a darkly inspirational nonfiction character" - perhaps the last native speaker of the Sirenik Eskimo language - in a move fitting VYIE's icy aesthetic and tragic vibe, and adding to the mysterious allure. Admission is free for the 9 p.m. show, which is followed by a DJ set. Visit deepsouththebar.com. -Spencer Griffith
