Turchi, Mark Holland (Garage)

When: Sun., July 21, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: Free

In this post-Black Keys musical landscape, it has to be tough to go bluesy. Between that Grammy-winning duo and Jack White's multiple projects, the mainstream market has its share of overdriven songs about whiskey and women. Despite this environment, Turchi's swampy boogie-blues succeeds. The outfit is named for bandleader and recent UNC graduate Reed Turchi, who studied Mississippi blues at UNC's Center for the Study of the American South. The prolific Mark Holland opens. (Both acts also play on Monday at The Kraken in Chapel Hill.)
