Scott Phillips and Ivan Howard

KINGS--If the world works, lots of people will hear the newly minted Songs for Sixty Five Roses and drop their jaws when they hear track two, Caitlin Cary singing "Battleground Park," a song written by Raleigh songwriter and Goner frontman Scott Phillips. A tale of star-crossed love frowned upon by the world, it was an epic before, but--carried by Cary's voice and Neil Brockbank's string arrangements--it's a bit indescribable now. Phillips is one-half of a two solo-man bill tonight, with Ivan Howard from The Rosebuds also singing his songs (and that Swervedriver cover, please?) by his lonesome. --Grayson Currin
