JANE GOODALL
DUKE CAMPUS—The famed zoologist and United Nations "Messenger of Peace" who helped us re-examine our definitions of humanity will deliver a talk called "A Reason for Hope" at 7 p.m. in Page Auditorium. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Jane Goodall Institute. At press time, the event was sold out, but limited seating may be available at the door. Visit www.dukeperformances.duke.edu or call 660-3356 for more information. —Ashley Roberts

Chapel Hill
PROMUTE, REMORA
NIGHTLIGHTPerhaps the most promising aspect of relatively new Chapel Hill sound artist Shaun Sandor as Promute is, so far, his lack of commitment to a particular sound: At times, his electronic soundscapes distend into radiant drones like The Hafler Trio, though he also slides sheets of crystallized sound like Austrian composer Christian Fennesz. Remora is the solo guitar transmission of Brian John Mitchell. Also, Reverse Osmosis. Cover is $5 at 9:30 p.m. —Grayson Currin

RICHARD BACCHUS AND THE LUCKIEST GIRLS, THE FOXES
SLIM'S—It's rawboned raunch 'n' roll courtesy of recent Triangle transplant/former D Generation guitarist Richard "The Atomic Elf" Bacchus and his cross-Atlantic cousin, The Foxes. The cover is $3 for a 10 p.m. start. —Chris Parker
