Durham
Haven Kimmel
Regulator Bookshop—For her fourth novel, Iodine, Durham's Haven Kimmel heads into Gothic territory for her tale of Trace Pennington, a college student leading a double life, hiding from her abusive past—and slowly forced to crack away the layers of fantasy and delusion that make up her existence. Kimmel reads from and signs copies of Iodine at 7 p.m. Read our review. —Zack Smith

Raleigh
Richard Bacchus & The Luckiest Girls
Slim's—Plenty of Bowery-bred grime remains from D Generation's nostalgic New York Dolls-meets-the Dead Boys garage punk sound, but ex-guitarist Richard Bacchus' new outfit leans harder on the glam side of the equation. Indeed, tracks like "Long Lost Debby" off the Girls' debut, Jet Black & Beautiful, could be an outtake from All the Young Dudes, so close does Bacchus' reedy croon and the ballad's majestic swoon approximate '70s David Bowie protégé Mott the Hoople. While Johnny Thunders lingers in Bacchus' licks, the size of the fast charging hooks and bar room bluster sometimes recalls the energy of Cheap Trick's broad populist rawk. Leslie opens at 10 p.m. for $3. —Chris Parker
