Murray Perahia
Page Auditorium, Duke Campus—A thumb injury sidelined pianist Murray Perahia—an American so good that he was named an honorary Knight Commander of the British Empire in 2004—from classical music for a few years in the '90s. Upon returning, he soon added two Grammys to his first. While he does not have a dynamic stage presence, Perahia's rich playing communicates plenty with the keys alone: Notes leap for joy or crash to the ground. Perahia speaks on Monday at Duke and on Tuesday performs a program of selections by Bach, Beethoven, Schumann and Chopin—a set sufficiently Romantic for Perahia.
