Triple Fisher

When: Thu., Sept. 5, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: Free
At some point in the early '90s, TV networks started racing against the clock to get unauthorized, made-for-TV movies based on the latest headline-making scandal on the airwaves. These quickie flicks ran rampant: O.J., Woody and Soon-Yi, Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan all had badly-made telepics to call their own. Even Roseanne Arnold was the subject of a couple of them.

But perhaps the most shining example of television's shameless attempt to snatch up viewers was the trifecta of films based on the Amy Fisher scandal. In one film, Drew Barrymore played the Long Island teen who popped a cap in the head of her married lover's wife, while Alyssa Milano took on the Fisher role in another, tawdrier version.

If you weren't fortunate enough to watch all three of them when they originally aired, Motorco's new CineMotorco series presents Triple Fisher: The Lethal Lolitas of Long Island. In this found-footage fiesta, filmmaker Dan Kapelovitz uses scenes from all three films to tell the whole sordid tale. The film not only works as a celluloid commentary on Clinton-era tabloid culture, it's also a time capsule of television at its sensationalistic worst. —Craig D. Lindsey
