Tom Petty is that lanky, likable cuss we all remember from high school, the guy holding court in the cafeteria and uniting, if only briefly, jocks, stoners, bandies, farmers and any other group that roamed your halls. He's a music man of the people, and we the people are way better because of it. Go to a Petty concert, and you'll see the person from the next office over, someone you didn't even know had ears, pumping her fist and singing along to "Breakdown." Ten minutes later, she's doing a modified pogo to "American Girl." And when the last note's played, you'll realize you knew every song. Put it this way: Examine the DNA of anyone between age 30 and 60 who's ever bought a rock record or listened to rock radio, and you'll find a strand contentedly humming "Free Fallin'." Tickets range from $41 to $131, and the waiting—you know, the hardest part—ends at 7:30 p.m., when ZZ Top opens. —Rick Cornell
