ANYTOWN: Stories of America

REYNOLDS THEATER--For the most part, choreographers Danial Shapiro and Joanie Smith have brought the songs by Bruce Springsteen and E Street Band cohorts Patti Scialfa and Soozie Tyrell to vivid life in this evening-length fusion of theater and dance. Eleven dancers probe the urban angst of fracturing small-town families ("Square Dance," "Little Girl") and the dreams and tangled rites of romance ("Young in the City," a compelling "Big Muddy"), before contemplating war and natural disaster in "Saint Genevieve" and "Countin on a Miracle." The result: €Modern dance that reads like a terribly frank letter from home. Tickets are $25/$20, and $5 for Duke students. Call 684-4444. --Byron Woods
