JAMIE CULLUM

CAROLINA THEATRE--British pianist-vocalist Jamie Cullum burst onto the American music scene in 2004 with his crossover brand of jazzy pop that mixes rock 'n' roll rhythms with the smoothness of old standards. But don't let Cullum's mellow music fool you--with a penchant for jumping on piano benches and slamming his keyboard like a rocker, this man is anything but mundane in live performance. Hear Cullum croon at 8 p.m. Tickets go for $27.50. Visit www.carolinatheatre.org for more info. --Kathy Justice

MISS AMERICAN PIE

THE REGULATOR BOOKSHOP--Photographer Margaret Sartor reads from her coming-of-age memoir, a present-day prologue and epilogue neatly sandwiching chronologic lines and passages taken from the diaries she faithfully kept from 1972 through 1977, when she left home for college. Sartor rediscovered her cache of diaries in the attic of her family home in Louisiana. Braces, shag haircuts, cliquish girlfriends, her first bra, Nixon's resignation, musings about God and girlish crushes give way to first love in this compressed adolescence illustrated with family photographs. The reading and reception begin at 7 p.m. --Michele Natale
