GREGG MUSEUM OF ART & DESIGN —Check out tonight's gallery talk, "The Missing Link: Evolution of the Sock Monkey," with Dan Bartlett, a complement to the museum's Sock Monkey Madness photo show. The fun starts at 7 p.m. in N.C. State's Talley Student Center. For info, visit —Karlie Justus

Chapel Hill
LOCAL 506—Three local bands that have long been on the brink of something big: Nathan Asher & the Infantry open the Springsteen throttle, the band's major-chord, mammoth-rhythm textures meeting Asher's yearning romanticism dead-on. The Prayers and Tears of Arthur Digby Sellers conjure images and emotions with greater shades of subtlety. Openers American Aquarium may have the most momentum here, thanks to a handful of long tours that have taken their allegiance deep into the Midwest and a second record rumored to be attracting some familiar labels. Show's at 10 p.m. for $6. —Grayson Currin
