Brett Harris
The Cave—Brett Harris is a fair-voiced pop connoisseur specializing in four-minute bits of tenderness. His debut EP, Yesterday's News, offers equal amounts of jangle and drift, pop and pontification, like a Nick Lowe and Randy Newman acolyte dreaming in FM ballad Technisound. Virginia Beach's JoAnna Lynne, who opens, hasn't quite found a comfortable spot for her country-raised pretty waver in her own ballads, but her graceful air holds promise. Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
Common Ground Theatre—Party Girl! Productions tackles Edward Albee's enigmatic love story Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? this week, with Mark Jeffrey Miller and Nicole Farmer leading the charge. Miller has been in a slew of feature films and was one of the founding members of Transactors Improv in Carrboro. Farmer's a graduate of Julliard School of Drama and is a regular on local stages, including a notable turn as Blanche DuBois in a zombie-inflected reading of A Streetcar Named Desire. Albee's masterful play, set in the home of George and Martha, a mercurial older couple, covers a revealing night in which they host a younger, less jaded couple. Ryan Brock and Beth Popelka play the young couple caught in the maelstrom of alcoholic recrimination. The show opens tonight and runs through July 12.
