Raleigh Fashion Week
Raleigh Convention Center—Put "Raleigh" and "runway" together in the same sentence, and most Triangle residents will point in the direction of Raleigh-Durham International Airport. Raleigh's first fashion week hopes to raise the capital city's catwalk cred with a sartorial celebration of local fashion and fashion-lovers.
Although fashion "week" is a bit of a misnomer (it's actually a three-day collection of local designers, models and boutiques), the event features beauty, talent and healthy living seminars, vendor displays and trunk shows before a fashion show each night. Tonight, emerging designers from N.C. State University, Meredith College and N.C. Central University send models down the runway at 9 p.m. after a day of seminars and trunk shows.
On Friday afternoon, fashions skew younger during the free High School Fashion Showcase, complete with Zac Efron-inspired performances from North Carolina Theatre's version of High School Musical, before a 9 p.m. evening wear show. The weekend's crowning glory, the Strut '09 fashion show, tops things off at 9 p.m. Sunday with local celebrity designers Alexander Julian, Peter Millar and more.
