Rock 'N' Roll Camp for Girls
Durham County Library—When the first rock summer camp for girls started in Portland, Ore., in 2001, its organizers could only have dreamed of the way the idea would spread across the country, delivering on the promise of "revolution girl style now!" Today, the Portland camp's organizers kick off a nationwide tour to promote the new book, Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls: How to Start a Band, Write Songs, Record an Album, and ROCK OUT! Left-coast musician Katy Davidson, the musician known as "sts" and 'zine author Nicole Georges join local band Above Gravity (made up of 12- and 13-year-old N.C. campers) for a free event that blends live performance, visual art and advice on music, media and life. Workshop begins at 4 p.m., with a performance at 6 p.m. For more of our local talent, look for the Girls Rock NC showcase at Durham's Troika Music Festival on Friday, Nov. 7, at 5:45 p.m. at the Carolina Theatre. —Fiona Morgan

Durham
Romero Lubambo
Nelson Music Room, Duke Campus— Bossa nova music evokes ideas of transition, whether it's the passing of summer or the start of a new romance. Plucked strings can be lonesome and melancholic or drip with the humidity of seduction. Delicate melodies provide momentary security, but Brazilian syncopation offers sprees of change. Bossa nova guitarist Romero Lubambo finds beauty in the temporality of everyday things. His guitar paints synesthetic images of of warm noon sun coming through tree branches or leaves blowing by in the breeze. Lubambo infuses a sense of space into his masterful playing, creating an open landscape that takes you wherever you want to go. Pay $5-$20 at 8 p.m. —Andrew Ritchey
